2023 Myka Cellars Pepperwood Vineyard Petaluma Gap Pinot Noir
From the Seller
Truly distinctive Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir doesn’t just drop out of thin air.
Or does it?
Myka Cellars 2023 Pepperwood Vineyard Pinot makes a case for that, actually. It’s a 95-point scoring stunner that The Tasting Panel called “brilliant,” “beautifully crafted,” and “sublime.” And one that we’re offering up for a whopping 56% savings! Those are probably enough reasons alone for you to snag it. BUT… you know us, we can’t just leave it at that…
If you’re unfamiliar with Petaluma Gap, prepare for a near-perfect example from this much-loved AVA. The Gap is the world’s first-ever wine appellation based on wind patterns. This spot on the southern Sonoma Coast enjoys cooling fog that wooshes in on steady breezes from the Pacific, funneled by a coastal mountain range through the city of Petaluma.
This is wind that’s been known to sway vine shoots wildly from side to side, naturally lowering grape yields and elongating hangtime. As it turns out, those are exactly the conditions you want when farming for complex, concentrated, yet mineral-driven Pinot Noir like this single-vineyard beauty. Plush, with cranberry and wild strawberry fruit, layered with truffle-like earthiness, and balanced by ample but supple structure.
No wonder Somms throughout California and beyond have been clamoring to get Petaluma Gap Pinots onto their lists. Myka Cellars founder/winemaker Mica Raas recognized the potential of the Pepperwood Vineyard and Pinot Noir there, and he quickly made it part of his small production, craft-based portfolio, offering it exclusively to his wine club. Until today, that is.
95 points from one of the most renowned Pinot AVAs in Sonoma, for under $30… the stash of this one is definitely going to disappear into thin air!
95 Points – The Tasting Panel “A brilliant wine, beautifully crafted from start to finish. Medium deep red color, wonderfully aromatic with lifted red fruit, ripe strawberry and raspberry notes along with a savory dried herb note. Ample weight on the palate, round, seamlessly smooth, with bright acidity to keep it fresh on the palate. The oak is present just enough to add complexity and nuance. Sublime, refined, elegant, and immediately appealing from the first sip. Aged 9 months in French oak.”
